BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University women's lacrosse team erased a six-goal deficit and scored the final eight goals to earn a 15-13 victory over visiting Saint Joseph's College (Maine) this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 5-3 overall, including 3-2 in league play, while the Monks fall to 4-4 and 4-1. 

Simmons dominated the final 15 minutes of play, scoring eight unanswered goals, while winning seven of eight draws and holding Saint Joseph's to just one successful clear attempt in 10 tries. The Sharks owned a 19-11 draw control advantage for the game, including 13-4 in the second half. Simmons held its guests to just 14-27 on clear attempts for the contest, including 5-14 in the second stanza. 

Senior midfielder Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) matched her career high with six points on three goals and three assists and dominated the draw for the Sharks with a career-high 10 for the fourth-highest total in a game in school history. She also equaled her career best with six ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Sophomore Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) led all scorers with five goals to go with an assist and added three ground balls, five draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior attacker Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) tallied four goals and junior midfielder Kingsley Richards (Lexington, Mass.) found the back of the net twice. Sophomore goalie Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) stopped six shots to earn the win for the home team. 

Senior attacker Kara Kelly (York, Maine) led the Monks with three goals, while junior attacker Maddie Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine), first year middie Logan Champlin (Alfred, Maine) and sophomore midfielder Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) all registered a pair of goals each for Saint Joseph's. Dexter also won a team-high four draw controls and Champlin picked up a pair of ground balls, won three draws and caused a turnover. First year goalie Madelyn Nelson (Casco, Maine) notched six saves. 

Senior midfielder Brittney Arsenault (Westbrook, Maine) fired a low shot from 15 yards out that found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the year to give the Monks a 13-7 lead with 17:05 showing in the second half. It was their final score of the night before the Sharks put together their furious run. 

Reinhold scored on a free position shot and assisted Maiewski 1:42 later to pull Simmons to within 13-9 with 13:19 to play in the game. Reinhold and Maiewski traded goals again for the Sharks to make it a two-goal game at the 8:49 mark. Simmons continued its offensive outburst just 22 seconds later when it owned a player advantage and Cottam found Reinhold for the Sharks 12^th marker of the night. Richards scored less than a minute later to pull Simmons even at 13-13 with 7:43 remaining in the match. Reinhold scored another advantage goal when she converted a free position opportunity with 6:56 left in the contest for her team-high 25^th goal of the season and a 14-13 lead for the Sharks. Cottam controlled the draw and rushed down the right side, before dishing off to Maiewski in front of the net for her 14^th marker of the season and a 15-13 margin with 3:13 to play. 

Saint Joseph's scored five of the first six goals in the opening six minutes of the contest, including a pair of scores from Kara Kelly, to take a 5-1 cushion with 14:37 to go in the opening half. Cottam broke up a string of four consecutive goals from the visitors with a goal at 12:02 to make it 6-2. 

Sophomore attacker Emily Ryan (Wakefield, Mass.) and Beaulieu each scored on free position shots as part of a nine for 12 effort the Monks put together on free position tries. Cottam and Maiewski scored within 37 ticks of each other to cut the deficit to 7-4 for Simmons at the 2:11 mark, before sophomore attacker Josie Ring (Newfield, Maine) scored on a free position shot with just nine seconds remaining in the half to give the Monks an 8-4 halftime lead. 

The Sharks looked to change their fortunes right away in the second stanza when Cottam won the draw and scored 13 seconds into the new period. Simmons' momentum didn't last as Saint Joseph's scored four of the next five goals – all free position scores --, including a pair of markers from Champlin, to increase the Monks lead to 12-6 with 20:23 showing in the half. 

Richards scored her 11^th goal of the campaign on a helper from first year attacker Maegan Neelon (Scarborough, Maine) to pull the Sharks to within 12-7 with 19:17 to go in the contest. 

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, March 30 when it hosts GNAC foe Colby-Sawyer College at 11:00 a.m., while Saint Joseph's heads to Northfield, Vt. to take on Norwich University on the same day at 4:00 p.m.
