Cross Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week for the week of March 4-10, it was announced today by the league. 

The honor marks the second time that Cross has received the award after earning the accolade for the week of March 12-18, 2018. 

The sophomore posted a 2.00 goals against average to go with a .700 save percentage in 90 minutes of play, while recording a 2-0 win-loss mark in the Sharks' first two matches of the season. Cross also owned scoreless streak spanning 69:41 during the week. A graduate of Beverly High School, Cross did not allow a goal in 30 minutes of action to earn the win in a 19-0 victory over visiting Southern Vermont College on March 8. The Elementary Education major came back less than 24 hours later to stop seven shots in 60 minutes during an 11-3 victory over host Albertus Magnus College in GNAC action on March 9. 

Cross currently leads the league in victories, while topping the nation in goals against average and ranking third among NCAA Division III leaders in save percentage.

For her career, the second-year keeper has seen action in 810:46 minutes over 16 contests, while registering a 10.80 goals against mark and a .453 save percentage with 121 saves. Cross has made 15 starts and owns an 8-6 record. 

The Sharks are currently 2-0 on the season, including 1-0 in league play and return to action on Wednesday, March 13 when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on GNAC rival Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 p.m.
