Simmons senior Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) was named Basketball Player of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference for the week of January 18-24, 2010, the GNAC announced Monday evening.

Fox helped Simmons to a 2-0 GNAC week against Pine Manor College and Saint Joseph's College of Maine, and to their best-ever conference start of 4-1. On Saturday, January 23 against SJM, Fox set the single season block shot record for the Sharks with 49 season blocks to date after tallying 9 blocks this week, and is now 42 points away and closing from the Simmons 1,000 career points club after scoring 52 points for the Sharks during the week. Fox also had 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals over the two contests.

"I'm glad to see the conference finally recognize the type of season Stephanie is having, its was long overdue," said head Coach Tony Price. "She is a legitimate Player of the Year candidate, and her play throughout the season is one of the reasons for our success."
