Sharks Soar Past Falcons

The Simmons College basketball squad got back to it's winning ways on Wednesday night as they finally broke into the win column in conference play with a 68-36 win over Albertus Magnus. The Sharks jumped out to an early lead thanks to some suffocating defense that forced tough shots for the Falcons who could not convert much on the offensive end.

Simmons meanwhile was finding things a little bit easier led by freshman Morgan Johnson and sophomore Stephanie Fox. Simmons was able to run away from Magnus in the latter stages of the first half and take a 30-10 lead into the break. In the second half it was more of the same on both ends as the Falcons found it tough going, shooting just 20 percent for the game.

Simmons defense also forced 29 turnovers, which led to easy baskets. Johnson led the way offensively with 16 points, while Fox added 15, four assists, four blocks and four rebounds. Senior Center Nikki Cohen hauled in eight rebounds, and junior guard Sarah Clayton added eight points. The Sharks are back in action on Saturday at home once again when they take on Emerson College. The game will also feature a halftime celebration honoring Simmons' 25th anniversary as a basketball program.
