Rubin Becomes 19th Member of Softball's 100-Hit Club against Husson University

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Senior right fielder Jordyn Rubin became the 19th member of the coveted 100-hit club in the bottom of the first inning of game two in a doubleheader against Husson University on Saturday afternoon.

Roping a hard, line drive back where it came, the Lewiston, Maine native joined five former teammates earn the milestone. Rubin finished the day going two-for-six with an RBI and a run scored against the Eagles. 

Game 2: Husson 10, Simmons 4

After picking up a win in game one, the Eagles jumped out to a four-run lead to begin the second game of the twin-billing. But the Sharks began to chip their way back into the game, breaking up the shutout in the bottom of the third.

With runners at first and second in two outs, sophomore Emma Soule poked an opposite field single down the right field line. Fellow sophomore, Teagan Buckley came around from second to score the Shark' first run to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Eagles answered, pushing across three runs in the top of the fourth and fifth to extend their lead to six. However, the Shark bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth. Soule drove an opposite field triple into the right-centerfield gap to bring home Rubin. Two batters later, junior Leah Berdeen came through in the clutch with another opposite field triple to plate pinch-runner junior April Beatty to make it a 7-3 game.

Husson grabbed two runs back a half inning later, but Simmons was not going away. With runners on first and second and only one out, Rubin lined a single into centerfield. Sophomore Emily Deleault came around to score the fourth Sharks run, however junior centerfielder Raya Anderson was thrown out a trying to cut the deficit by to four. It was as close at the Sharks would get as the Eagles earned their 10th victory of the day.

Game 1: Husson 9, Simmons 4

In their first game of the day, sophomore left fielder Teagan Buckley ignited a four-run sixth inning lining a single back where it came from to break up string of 16 straight batters retired. After Rubin brought home the first Sharks run of the game with bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, Soule ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to plate Beatty and Deleault and knock Eagles starter Danielle Masterson from the game.

Sophomore Trinity Payne welcomed Husson's new pitcher into the game with an RBI single into centerfield to cut the lead in half, 8-4, but it was not enough as the Eagles were able to get the best of the Sharks.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior Jordyn Rubin became the 19th Simmons player to record her 100th career base hit, joining former teammates Maddie Castigliego, Shannon McMahon, Alex Morang, Christie Bott and Allie Mulhern along with current coach Lauren Del Vacchio.
  • Sophomore Emma Soule went 3-for-7 with a triple and four RBI from the middle of the Sharks batting order.
  • Sophomore right-hander Trinity Payne tossed 2.1 innings of relieve in game one allowing just three unearned runs and striking out one.
