Rubin, Kinney Secure GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. – Junior designated player Jordyn Rubin and first-year right-hander Piper Kinney garnered Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week accolades announced Monday afternoon.

Rubin posted a staggering 2.000 OPS (1.375 SLG%, .625 OBP) from the middle of the Shark lineup to lead Simmons to the sweep over Wellesley College on Friday afternoon. In a 6-3 victory in game one, Rubin went three-for-four with a pair of triples and two RBI, then nearly duplicated that performance in a 10-2 win in game two, going two-for-four with her third triple of the day and another two RBI.

Making her second career start, Kinney earned her first collegiate career win guiding Simmons to a sweep of Wellesley College in a 10-2 game two win on Friday afternoon. The central Massachusetts native tossed a complete-game five innings, allowing two unearned runs, while scattering five hits and striking out one opposing batter.

Simmons returns to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, March 22 when they travel to Rhode Island College. First pitch at 4 p.m.
