Celebrating Women's History Month with Softball sophomore Jordyn Rubin

Throughout Women's History Month, the Simmons Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will reflect on the importance of celebrating Women's History Month and the inspirations in their life. Today, we feature Simmons softball sophomore Jordyn Rubin on the inspirations in her life.

1. Who throughout women's history has been inspirational to you and your life?
My mom has always been my biggest inspiration ever since I was a kid. She has faced so much adversity and has always kept fighting without losing hope of what's coming next. I have strived to be just like my mom and she's helped me find my voice as a woman, and speak up for what I believe in.

2. What does women's history month mean to you?
Women's history month represents the amazing women before us who have succeeded and paved the way for other women like me to stand up for ourselves and what we believe in. With women's history month, we're able to celebrate each and every one of these women and their accomplishments!

3. How do you celebrate and show the importance of women's history within your team?
On the softball team, we strive to be the best women we can be by working hard, lifting each other up through the hard times, advocating for each other, and celebrating each other's accomplishments. As independent women, we lead by example and encourage future sharks to be confident in themselves.

4. How will you transition from learning from the inspirational women you mentioned in question one to being that inspirational woman/leader in your future?
As I've grown up, I've closely watched my mom and how she conquers life. She's taught me to always be kind, lead by example, and stand up for what I believe in. Over the years, I've grown as a person and learned how to love myself, stand up for what I believe in, and help those in need. Moving forward in life I will always have my mom and her voice in the back of my mind telling me to keep going. I will continue to use what my mom has guided me with over the years and help other people find these things within themselves and help those before and after me that need it.
