BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (3-0, 2-0 GNAC) secured their third victory of the season defeating Rivier University, 4-1, on Saturday morning.

Less than a minute into the contest, junior Sydney Gonyea found the back of the cage to give Simmons the 1-0 lead. It remained a tight one-goal game for the rest of the first quarter. However, two minutes into the second period the Sharks doubled their lead. Junior Anna Tedeschi tipped in a pass from Hannah Groves to take a 2-0 lead into the second half.

Simmons controlled much of the second half when the teams returned to the field. Late in the third quarter, they began to pepper the Raider goalkeeper in front of the net. The Sharks eventually scored their third goal of the game when first-year Lilly Taglieri registered her first collegiate goal, scoring off a rebound.

With a minute left in the game the Raiders broke up the shutout attempt to cut the deficit to two goals. But just before time expired, Taglieri punched in her second goal of the game on a pass from sophomore Ainslee Shrout to give the sharks the three-goal win.
