GENEVA, N.Y. – After being named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Offensive Player of the Year, sophomore forward Sydney Gonyea was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region team announced Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to leading the GNAC in goals and points, Gonyea was amongst the top-five field hockey players in the nation in all offensive categories, leading a Shark team that was fourth in scoring average. Towards the end of the regular season, she surpassed her collegiate career single-game high with eight points (three goals and two assists) in a 10-0 shutout over the University of St. Joseph (Conn.). It was the fourth time all season she recorded six or more points in a game.
While becoming the first Shark to earn GNAC Offensive Player of the Year honors since Julie Saltamartini in 2015, Gonyea also eclipsed Saltamartini's program record in goals and points following a 4-0 win over Regis College.
One of six GNAC student-athlete to receive regional honors, Gonyea also became 10th Shark to be selected to the NFHCA All-Region squad.
