Field Hockey's Fourth Quarter Comeback to Colby-Sawyer Falls Short

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (10-2, 5-2 GNAC) dropped only their second game of the year to Colby-Sawyer (9-3, 5-1 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Saturday morning. 

The Sharks entered the game looking to atone from last season's loss in New Hampshire. Sophomore forward Anna Tedeschi put the Sharks on the board first, scoring the in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead after the first quarter.

A minute into the second period, the Chargers answered and knotted up the game at one. Bella Silva scored the equalizer on a re-directed shot from Aleah Murph following a penalty corner. The Sharks responded four minutes later. Sophomore Hanna Groves put Simmons back on top by one, 2-1, on a deflection from five yards out. However, just before the end of the first half, the Chargers tied up the score on a rebound goal from Alyssa Slocum.

Coming out at the start of the second half, the Chargers picked up where they left off in the second quarter. Slocum scored her second goal of the game to give Colby-Sawyer its first lead of the game. Towards the end of the third quarter, Murph connected with Aoife Daly in front of the net to give the Chargers a two-goal cushion. 

Trailing by a pair of goals going into the final 15 minutes, the Sharks were determined to tie the game. Tedeschi recorded her second goal of the game, finding the back of the cage in the 54th minute to cut the Charger lead to one, 4-3. But it was as close as they would get as Colby-Sawyer held on for the 4-3 win.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Anna Tedeschi registered her third straight game with two goals – scoring the first and last goals of the game. She currently has five two-goal games of the season.
  • Sophomore Hannah Groves scored in her fourth straight game, scoring in the 20th minute.
  • Senior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan registered nine saves.
