BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (10-1, 5-1 GNAC) registered their eighth shutout of the season, blanking Saint Joseph's College of Maine (7-5, 4-2 GNAC), 3-0, Wednesday evening. The Sharks are tied with Ohio Wesleyan for the most shutouts in the NCAA, across all divisions.

The two teams battled each other fiercely throughout a scoreless first period. Midway through the quarter the Monks looked poised to break the tie, but an Aimee Adams shot deflected off the nearside post of the goal.

It remained a back-and-forth battle until halfway through the second period. In front of the goal, sophomore Anna Tedeschi knocked in her ninth goal of the season from graduate senior Riley Lambert and sophomore Sydney Gonyea to send the Sharks into the intermission with the 1-0 lead.

Returning to the field at the start of the second half, the Sharks added to their lead. Off a penalty corner, sophomore Hannah Groves laced a shot right passed Monks goalkeeper Kassidy Collins. Just before the end of the third quarter, Tedeschi registered her 10th goal of the season with a sliding shot on the near side of the field to put the Sharks up 3-0.

Senior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan improved to 6-1 on the season, earning her season-best fourth shutout, registering three saves in the victory.
