Field Hockey Blanks Albertus Magnus on the Road; Collects Seventh Shutout

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Simmons field hockey (9-1, 4-1 GNAC) registered its seventh shutout of the season, blanking Albertus Magnus College, 8-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Saturday afternoon.

Halfway through the first period, sophomore Hannah Groves connected with classmate Sydney Gonyea for the eventual game-winner in the sixth minute. Two minutes later Groves scored the second goal of the game to give the Sharks a two-goal advantage. Just before the end of the first quarter, fellow sophomore Anna Tedeschi concluded the first period scoring her seventh goal of the season to put Simmons in front, 3-0.

The Shark offense was rolling. Gonyea posted back-to-back goals in the second and third quarters, increasing the Shark lead to 5-0. Moments later Riley Lambert added to the lead put Simmons up, 6-0 heading into the final quarter of play.

In the final 15 minutes, Gonyea connected with Tedeschi for her eighth goal of the season before Lambert knocked in her ninth goal of the season. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Arenberg made her fourth start in net, playing 30 minutes and improved to 4-0 on the season. 

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Three different players recorded two goals against the Falcons – Anna Tedeschi, Sydney Gonyea, Riley Lambert.
  • Tedeschi tied their career single-game highs with two goals and surpassed her career single-game high in points with five (2 goals, 1 assist). 
  • Graduate senior Riley Lambert registered her eighth and ninth goals of the season in the second half.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simmons out-shot Albertus Magnus, 45-1.
