Field Hockey Moves to 2-0 on the Young Season Following Victory over UMass Dartmouth

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons field hockey (2-0) earned its second win of the young season with a 4-1 victory over UMass Dartmouth (1-1), Saturday morning.

The Sharks jumped on the scoreboard early, taking advantage of an early penalty corner when senior Haley Dover slid a shot into the lower right corner. Simmons maintained the lead for the next five minutes before UMass Dartmouth's Maggie Doherty tied up the game a 1-1.

With the game tied at one at the start of the second quarter, sophomore Hannah Groves ignited a 3-0 Shark run 35 second into the period and opened the flood gates. Already with an assist in the game, sophomore Anna Tedeschi gave the Sharks an insurance goal to increase their lead to 3-1.

Just before the end of the first half, the Sharks scored their fourth and final goal of the game. Sophomore Emilia Elko made a pass towards the cage that was tipped into the goal by a diving senior Hunter Langley.

Senior goalkeeper Sarah Arenberg earned her first win of the season, registering a save in 60 minutes of action.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Anna Tedeschi registered her first goal of the season, while also picking up an assist on the first goal of the game.
  • Sophomore Hannah Groves buried the game-winning goal 35 seconds into the second quarter.
  • Sophomore Sydney Gonyea recorded an assist for the second straight game.
