Field Hockey Lands Four on All-GNAC Squad

WINTHROP, Mass. – First-year attacker Sydney Gonyea highlighted four members of the 2021 Simmons field hockey team to be recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) all-conference team, announced Tuesday afternoon.

Gonyea, a two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week selection, was named to the All-Conference first team as well as the All-Rookie squad. Registering five multi-goal games, the New Hampshire native led the Sharks with 14 goals and three assists for 25 points, including recording three hat-tricks.

Fellow first-year Emilia Elko was named to the All-GNAC second team along with senior defender Emily Plummer. Elko scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 road win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine that handed the Monks their first conference loss in 25 games and finished the season with nine goals and two assists for 20 points. In addition, she also notched a pair of hat-tricks against Regis (Oct. 9) and St. Joseph (Conn.) (Oct. 23).

Plummer helped solidify the backline for the Sharks, playing exceptional defense late in the season that spurred a 6-0 win-streak to secure the fourth-seed in the post-season tournament. The San Diego native registered four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season.

First-year attacker Anna Tedeschi joined Gonyea on the All-Rookie team, finishing the season second on the team with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. Senior Haley Dover rounded out the Sharks being named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
