WINTHROP, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan netted Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second straight week, while Emilia Elko became the third Simmons first-year to secure Rookie of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon.
Sheehan guided Simmons to a 2-0 week, which included a midweek 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine, handing the Monks their first conference loss of the year and snapping a 25-conference game win streak. In 60 minutes in net, Sheehan registered nine saves the closed out the week earning her third shutout of the season in a 5-0 road victory over St. Joseph (Conn.).
Elko scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute against the Monks, Wednesday evening then closed out the week registering a hat-trick in a 5-0 shutout over St. Joseph (Conn.). She currently ranks fourth amongst conference leaders in goals (9) and points (20) against GNAC opponents.
Simmons returns to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 27 when they close out the regular season against Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m.
