Field Hockey Stumbles Against Non-Conference Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – Simmons field hockey fell back to 3-2 on the season following a, 4-1, non-conference loss to Salve Regina University (6-1) on Wednesday evening. 

The Sharks struck first, in the opening minutes of the contest. Senior Emily Plummer buried the ball in the ball back of the goal off a penalty corner taken by first-year Anna Tedeschi. They held the lead for the first seven minutes of the contest, before Eliza Timms scored the equalizer in the ninth minute.

Just before the end of the first quarter, Timms put the Seahawks in front by one on a pass from Shannon Kennedy and the Seahawks did not look back. Timms scored two more times in the fourth quarter to add to the Salve Regina lead and seal the game for the Seahawks.

In her fifth game of the season, junior goalie Emma Sheehan registered a season-high 15 saves to keep the Sharks in the game.

  • Senior Emily Plummer's goal in the opening minutes was her third of the season.
  • First-year Anna Tedeschi's assist on Plummer's goal gives her two on the year and eight points overall.
