Field Hockey Places 16 on Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad

GILBERT, Ariz. – The Simmons University field hockey team saw 16 student-athletes named to the Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, it was announced by the NFHCA. 

The squad is comprised of nearly 1,943 student-athletes from 157 schools in NCAA Division III. 

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year. 

The Sharks have had 10 or more team members land a spot on the National Academic Squad in each of the last six years and only 26 other schools in the nation boasted more honorees than Simmons this season. The Sharks count 15 among its student-athletes, who compiled a GPA of 3.5 or better and five student-athletes who maintained a perfect 4.0 following the fall semester at the Fenway school.

The following student-athletes from Simmons earned a spot on the squad for the first time: First years Maddie Beckwith (Winslow, Maine) and Keira Straiton (Brookfield, Conn.) and juniors Jenia Brewington (Boston, Mass.) and Lily D'Anna (Woodstock, Vt.). Sophomores Brianna Desharnais (Freedom, N.H.)Lilly Devitt (Belmont, Mass.)Haley Dover (West Springfield, Mass.), Michela Platt (Waltham, Mass.)Emily Plummer (San Diego, Calif.), and junior Cindy Murphy (Revere, Mass.) all repeated on the National Academic Squad for the second time. Juniors Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Liz Poteat (Westfield, Mass.) were recognized for the third time in as many years, while seniors Meg Pereira (New Bedford, Mass.)Krystianna Pietrzak (Bennington, Vt.)Hannah Scott (Claremont, N.H.) and Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) were all tabbed for the fourth time in their respective careers.

In addition, the Sharks were recognized for the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for the 19th consecutive year after posting a team GPA of 3.61.
