WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of October 21-27, it was announced today by the league. 

McNamara earns the award for a conference-high fifth time to tie former Simmons keeper Brianna Rastello's 2014 campaign (2013-16) for the most times the honor has been handed out to a GNAC goalie. The current three-year standout previously received the accolade this season for the weeks of September 2-8, September 9-15, September 23-29 and September 30 to October 6. 

The junior posted a 1.50 goals against average in 120 minutes of play over two matches this week and stopped 20 shots to register a .870 save percentage. A graduate of Nauset Regional High School, McNamara turned back all five shots she faced in a 2-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer College on October 23 to record her league-leading fifth shutout of the season and 10^th of her career. The Public Relations & Marketing Communications major capped the week by making 15 saves in a 3-0 loss to visiting Wellesley College on October 26. 

For the season, McNamara leads the GNAC and ranks 14^th in the nation with a .834 save percentage and stands 21^st among NCAA Division III leaders with 8.67 saves per game to give her a total of 141 for the second-highest total in the conference. McNamara is tied for the league lead in games played and starting assignments with 17 and stands alone with 1045:37 minutes played. In addition, the Cape Cod native ranks second with seven victories on the year. Her 15-save effort on Saturday marked the seventh time this season she has recorded double-digits in saves in a match and was two shy of her season-high of 17 in a 1-0 defeat at Smith College on October 1. McNamara has allowed two or fewer goals on 11 occasions this season. 

McNamara has started all 54 matches she's appeared in for the Sharks and owns a lifetime goals against mark of 1.85 with her first two seasons being played under a 70-minute match limit, compared to this season's 60-minute match time. She has denied 354 shots during her tenure to record a .783 save percentage and has earned 27 victories, including over 3554:38 minutes of play. She was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2017 in addition to being selected a Second Team All-Conference honoree the same year. 

Simmons is currently 7-10 on the season, including 4-3 in league play and returns to action on Wednesday, October 30 when it travels to Newton, Mass. to take on GNAC foe Lasell University at 3:15 p.m. in its regular-season finale.
