Field Hockey Defeats Albertus Magnus, 5-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Five different players scored for the Simmons University field hockey team in a 5-0 victory over host Albertus Magnus College this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks improve to 6-9 overall, including 3-3 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 1-10 and 0-6.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Five different players scored for the Simmons University field hockey team in a 5-0 victory over host Albertus Magnus College this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks improve to 6-9 overall, including 3-3 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 1-10 and 0-6.

Simmons dominated possession of the ball with a 48-1 shot advantage and a 19-0 margin on penalty corners. 

Junior midfielder Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.) opened the day's scoring for the Sharks with her third goal of the season coming with 57 seconds left in the initial quarter. The goal held up as the only score of the half with Simmons taking a 1-0 edge into the intermission. 

The Sharks score twice in the third and two more times in the fourth quarter for the final four tallies of the match. Senior forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) scored her team-leading eighth marker of the season just 54 seconds into the third quarter to give Simmons a two-goal lead, before senior back Megan Pereira (New Bedford, Mass.) fed junior forward Liz Poteat (Westfield, Mass.) for her first goal of the year and a 3-0 lead with 1:56 to go in the third quarter.

Junior forward Lily D'Anna (Woodstock, Vt.) helped pad the Sharks advantage with her third tally of the season coming with 6:09 gone in the final quarter of play. Simmons capped the scoring with five minutes remaining in the game when junior back Abby Anderson (South Yarmouth, Mass.) recorded her first collegiate point on an assist on sophomore forward Haley Dover's (West Springfield, Mass.) fourth season-goal to make it 5-0.

First year forward Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) led the Albertus Magnus offense with a shot on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced to register her fourth shutout of the season and ninth of her career for the Sharks, while first year goalie Mikayla Lyston (Medford, N.Y.) turned away 28 shots for the Falcons. 

Simmons returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 when it hosts GNAC foe Colby-Sawyer College on Daly Field at 3:30 p.m., while Albertus Magnus hosts GNAC rival Johnson & Wales University on the same day at 4:00 p.m.
