WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University field hockey player Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of September 9-15, it was announced by the league today. 

McNamara was named the GNAC's top keeper last week as well to become the first keeper in school history to earn the award multiple times in consecutive seasons and the first GNAC player since Lasell College's Denise Landry (2014-17), who was tabbed the conference's top weekly goalkeeper twice during the 2017 campaign and three times in 2016. McNamara becomes the first netminder to be named in back-to-back weeks in consecutive seasons and has now been tapped five times by the league during her career. 

The junior made 15 saves to post a .750 save percentage, while owning a 2.50 goals against average in 120 minutes of play in two matches. McNamara also recorded her sixth career shutout in a 1-1 week. A graduate of Nauset Regional High School, McNamara began the week by finishing two saves shy of her career high with 14 stops in a 5-1 loss at host Worcester Polytechnic Institute on September 10. The goalie rebounded to stop the only shot she faced in a 3-0 shutout over visiting Anna Maria College in the GNAC season opener on September 14. 

For the season, the Public Relations and Marketing Communications major ranks third among league leaders with a .787 save mark and stands fourth with a 2.03 goals against average in 295:34 minutes of play in five matches. The goalie has been outstanding at home for the Sharks, turning away all nine shots she's faced in 105 minutes of action to earn a pair of victories. 

McNamara has started all 42 matches she's played for Simmons, while recording 22 wins in 2804:35 minutes of action. She has made 250 saves as part of a .758 career save percentage. The three-year player was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2017 in addition to being selected a Second Team All-Conference honoree the same year. 

The Sharks are currently 2-3 on the season, including 1-0 in conference play and will return to action on Wednesday, September 18 when they host Wheaton College (Mass.) on Daly Field at 4:00 p.m.
