BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Simmons University field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria College this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 1-3 and 0-1.

Simmons dominated the offensive play with a 13-3 shot advantage and held Anna Maria without a shot in the second half. The Sharks also owned a 10-3 advantage on penalty corners.

Both of Trull's goals came in the fourth quarter to provide Simmons with some breathing room after holding a 1-0 edge for most of the match. Junior midfielder Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.) blasted a shot off the AMC keeper that Trull collected in the left post and unleashed a shot into the back of the cage with 10:05 left in the quarter for a 2-0 margin.

Trull struck again on a Sharks penalty corner when sophomore Haley Dover (West Springfield, Mass.) found her with a short cross in front of the cage for Trull's third marker of the season coming with 5:33 left in the match and a 3-0 lead.

Simmons opened the scoring just 65 seconds into the second quarter when Fuzak corralled a defensive save five yards away from the cage and sent a shot from the left side to inside of the right post for her first tally of the year.

First year forward Calli McLaughlin (Rutland, Mass.) registered the only shot on frame for Anna Maria, but the Sharks keeper turned it away late in the second quarter of play.

Junior goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) recorded a save to register her sixth career shutout for Simmons, while sophomore Cassie Micklesavage (Pottstown, Pa.) made nine saves for the AMCATS.

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, September 18 when they host Wheaton College (Mass.) for a 4:00 p.m. match at Daly Field, while Anna Maria heads to Leicester, Mass. on September 17 to take on Becker College at 4:00 p.m.
