McNamara Named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University field hockey player Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of September 2-8, it was announced today by the league. 

McNamara earns the honor for the fourth time in her career, having been named once as a first year and twice last season. 

The junior posted a 1.71 goals against average and made 12 saves to register a .800 save percentage in 105 minutes of action over two matches. The Nauset Regional High School product stopped four of seven shots in a 3-0 loss at Westfield State University on September 4, before turning away all eight shots she faced in 45 minutes of play to help the Sharks record a 6-0 shutout over visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on September 7. 

A Public Relations and Marketing Communications major, McNamara owns a 1.71 goals against mark in three matches to rank second among GNAC leaders and has recorded 22 saves for a .815 save percentage to place her third in the conference. The netminder made a season-high 10 saves in a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Clark University on August 30. 

With her third collegiate campaign just underway, McNamara owns a career GAA of 1.93 and five shutouts, while boasting a .758 save mark with 235 stops in 2684:35 minutes over 40 matches. The goalie has started every match she's played in and was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year in 2017 in addition to being selected a Second Team All-Conference honoree the same year.

Simmons returns to action on Tuesday, September 10 when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 4:30 p.m.
