Rondeau Named ECAC New England and GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week

WINTRHOP Mass. ? Simmons College field hockey player Samantha Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England and Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, it was announced by each league.

WINTRHOP Mass. – Simmons College field hockey player Samantha Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England and Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of October 13-19, it was announced by each league. 

The honor marks the fifth time this season that a Simmons player has been named the GNAC's top weekly rookie. First year Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) earned the award for the weeks of September 1-7, September 8-14, September 29 to October 5 and October 6-12 as well. 

In two matches, the first year tallied seven points on a pair of goals and three assists and notched at least three points in both contests. The forward began the week with a goal and two assists in the Sharks' 6-0 victory over Bay Path College on October 15 and scored on her only shot of the afternoon. Rondeau capped the week with a marker and a helper to help Simmons to a 5-0 win over GNAC foe Rivier University on October 18. 

For the season, the Franklin High School product has started four of 15 matches and ranks third on the team with six goals and 18 points, while leading the squad and ranking fifth among league leaders with six assists. Rondeau has tallied at least one point in back-to-back games on three occasions this season and has had a hand in multiple goals in three outings. 

The Sharks have currently won seven matches in a row as part of an 11-4 overall record, including a perfect 5-0 in league play to sit atop the conference standings. Simmons will be in action again on Saturday, October 25 when they take on the league's other undefeated team, Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at 1:00 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
