WATERVILLE, Maine -- First Year Jenna Gagnon (Waterville, Maine) scored the lone goal of the game as the Sharks defeated the Thomas College Terriers, 1-0 in North Atlantic Conference field hockey action Saturday morning.

After a tightly contested first half of play, the Terriers and Sharks remained knotted at zero a piece. Ten minutes into the second stanza, Gagnon would dribble over to the left side of the box and fire a shot through traffic to find the back of the cage to give the Sharks a one goal advantage.

Simmons continued to pressure the Terrier defense and maintained possession on the attacking end. Thomas' last chance effort to break even came at the 64:58 mark as Miranda Tinsman put a shot on net, but was turned away by the Simmons net minder Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.).

Rastello finished the game with three saves in the shutout victory for the Sharks.

Overall, Simmons outshot the Terriers 9-6 in the contest and were edged out in penalty corners 9-4.

The shutout loss for the Terriers is the fifth this season, and third out of the last four games.

With the victory, Simmons has evened the series record between these two schools at three games apiece, which dates back to 2007.

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at home against Colby-Sawyer.
