NASHUA, N.H. -- The Simmons Field Hockey team topped the Rivier University Raiders, 2-0 this evening at Raider Field to Simmons College in North Atlantic Conference action.

The loss drops the Raiders' overall record to 4-9 (0-5 NAC) while the win lifts Simmons above the .500 mark with a 7-6 record (1-2 NAC).

The Sharks were able to find the back of the net mid-way through the first stanza as a penalty corner gave Simmons a scoring opportunity. Amy Cronin (Georgetown, Mass.) sent the corner to the top of the half circle where Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) fired a shot on net. Cronin was able to get in front of the net as the shot was being delivered and smartly place her stick in position to deflect it past Rivier junior goaltender Makenzie Flagg.

Simmons was able to extend their lead in the second half (40th minute) when Mary Niedhardt (Middlefield, Conn.) was able to score her sixth goal of season when she knocked home a pass from Martensson.

Flagg finished the game with 11 saves for the Raiders. Simmons' net minder Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) earned the shutout as she stopped both shots she faced.

Rivier will return to action on Friday evening as they welcome first year program Johnson and Wales University to Raider Field for a 5pm start time. Simmons will host Castleton on Saturday afternoon as their NAC contest will begin at 1pm.
