Smith Records Shut Out in Sharks Win

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Field Hockey scored early and often in a 6-0 victory against Wheelock College on a rainy Tuesday evening at The Winsor School Fields. The Sharks jumped out to 2-0 lead on goals from freshman Kelly Williamson (Natick, Mass.), and Katelyn Tighe, (Easton, Mass.). Freshman Mercedes Godin (Essex Jct., Vt.) completed the first half scoring with her first collegiate goal.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Simmons College sophomore Monica Doucette (Rockport, Maine) slipped the game-winning goal past Salve Regina University field hockey keeper Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) just 4:13 into overtime as the Sharks defeated the Seahawks, 2-1, in non-league action.

Freshman Mercedes Godin (Essex Jct., Vt.) completed the first half scoring with her first collegiate goal.

Wheelock started the second half with determined play but the Sharks kept up the pressure. Freshman Meghan Fay (Foxboro, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season at 40:48, setting the tone for the Sharks for the second half.

Fay struck again on a pass from Monica Doucette (Rockport, Maine) at 62:03 to expand the Sharks lead to five. Doucette tailed her own goal a minute later to end the scoring. Doucette finished the game with a goal and two assists. Simmons held an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Sharks goalkeeper Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) picked up her first shut out, while Wheelock goalkeeper Michelle Green made and impressive18 saves in the loss.

The Sharks return to the field on Thursday, September 8 as they travel to MIT for a non-conference game at 6:00 p.m.
