Sharks Fall to Wheaton, 6-1

Simmons Field Hockey was overpowered by Wheaton College, 6-1, on Sunday, September 26 at home. Sophomore Zoie Kaley (Manchester, Maine) scored the lone goal for the Sharks with 25:08 remaining in the second half. The loss brings Simmons to 3-4 overall (1-0 NAC), and with the win, the Lyons advance to 8-2 (2-0 NEWMAC).

Simmons Field Hockey was defeated by Husson Univerity, 6-1, in North Atlantic Conference action at Husson?s Winkin Complex on Friday. Six different Eagles scored to lift the team to a 6-4 (4-1 NAC) record. With the loss, Simmons falls to 3-6 (1-2 NAC).

The Sharks struggled to control the ball throughout both halves, allowing six different Lyons to score on freshman keeper Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine). Alex Smith and Aliza Underhill brought the score to 2-0, Wheaton advantage, in the first half, while Tierney Richardson, Jessica Strock, Emily Asack and Jenna Rocha brought added four more to bring the total to 6-1, Wheaton.

Smith was bombarded with 18 shots on goal and made 12 saves for the Sharks on the day. Wheaton keeper Ellie Massengill was able to knock away two of Simmons three shots on goal.

Simmons will return to action on Saturday, October 2 when they host Thomas for a NAC matchup at 1:00pm. Wheaton will travel to Mount Holyoke for a NEWMAC contest on the same day and time.
