Sharks Hit by Husson, 6-1

Simmons Field Hockey was overpowered by Wheaton College, 6-1, on Sunday, September 26 at home. Sophomore Zoie Kaley (Manchester, Maine) scored the lone goal for the Sharks with 25:08 remaining in the second half. The loss brings Simmons to 3-4 overall (1-0 NAC), and with the win, the Lyons advance to 8-2 (2-0 NEWMAC).

The game's first shot would also prove to be the first goal when Skye Ellis recovered a loose ball in the Simmons circle and beat the keeper for the Husson score. Three minutes later off a short corner, Helen Berry received a pass from Lorri Hiltz and put the ball in the back of the cage. Husson pushed the score to 3-0 when Jill Morin scored a backhanded goal to the right of Simmons' keeper, Renna Smith (Belfast, Maine) off a short corner. Hiltz tallied her second assist of the day on the goal.

Midway through the first half, Caroline Bochtler powered a high shot that deflected off the keeper's pad and into the net for the fourth Husson goal of the game, assisted by Helen Berry. Kajsa Blindow closed out the first half scoring with a goal that was assisted by Kait Dingley.

The first half would end with a 6-0 Eagle lead, a 10-3 shot advantage for the Eagles, and an 8-1 corner advantage over Simmons.

Simmons reached the scoreboard in the second half when Zoie Kaley (Manchester, Maine) carried the ball the length of the field and beat Husson goalkeeper, Kristen Capen off her line to the right for the Sharks' goal.

Simmons pressed until the waning seconds of the game when Kaley had an excellent scoring chance and shot turned away by Kapen in goal.

On the day, Husson recorded 17 shots to Simmons' 5. Smith tallied 7 saves for the Sharks while Capen recorded 2 saves for the Eagles.

Simmons returns to action when they face Rivier in a home game on Tuesday, October 12 at 7pm. The Eagles will play Saturday, October 16 with a home game against Lasell at 12pm.
