McCall Joins Sports Medicine Staff as an Athletic Trainer

BOSTON – Simmons University Director of Athletics & Recreation Erica Schuling has announced the hiring of Kate McCall as an Athletic Trainer. McCall will begin her new role on August 1, 2024.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kate to Simmons as a member of the Sports Medicine team," says Schuling. "She will play a vital role in prioritizing the well-being of our student athletes, while encouraging self-advocacy and providing excellent coordination of care. Kate's knowledge and experience will pair nicely with the skillset of Director of Sports Medicine, Katy Annunziata."

McCall comes to Simmons after spending the past three seasons as assistant athletic trainer at Bridgewater State University. She served as the primary contact for the Bears football, field hockey, volleyball, women's basketball and women's lacrosse teams, providing practice and game coverage while also evaluating and rehabbing injuries.

Aside from the day-to-day sports medicine coverage, McCall instituted a pre-athletic training internship curriculum for students interesting in athletic training as well as supervised athletic training students.

"I'm excited to start working at Simmons and to bring in everything I've learned to give student athletes the best overall experience with collegiate sports," says McCall.

Prior to her time at Bridgewater State, McCall spent two years as an athletic training fellow with The Hughston Foundation. In her time there, she spent one year as an athletic trainer with Auburn University's intramural and club sports before working with various high schools throughout Georgia.

McCall graduated from Ithaca College's School of Health Science and Human Performance in the spring of 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training. During her time as an undergraduate, she served as a teaching assistant where she mentored students in proper techniques of wound care, taping, stretching and applying heat/ice. McCall went on to receive her Master's in Kinesiology in the spring of 2021.
