WESTON, Mass. – Simmons volleyball (8-6, 4-0 GNAC) swept Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match against Regis College (7-6, 1-1 GNAC) and Mitchell College (5-7, 3-3 GNAC).
MATCH 1: Simmons 3, Regis 1
The Sharks jumped out to a quick two-set lead against the Pride, winning the first and second sets, 25-19 and 25-16. Regis was able to squeak out a win in third set to stay alive, but the Sharks responded and sealed the match with a 27-25 win.
Senior outside hitter Claire Conners led the way registering 16 kills and three total blocks (1 solo and 2 assisted), while fellow senior Jayla Parnell followed up with 11 kills. Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons paced the offense with 27 assists while also notching three blocks – two solo and one assisted.
MATCH 2: Simmons 3, Mitchell 0
The second match of the day was a block party for the Sharks, blanking the Mariners in three sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-14. Led by a career single-game high four block assists by sophomore Illiana Diaz, the Sharks notched a total of 19 blocks – 18 assisted. Fellow sophomore Alex Spencer and junior Meghan Doxsee also notched four block assists.
Offensively, Conners heated up. Posting a .375 attack percentage with 14 kills on 32 attempts and just two errors, she also notched her second straight double-double of the season notching 12 digs.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior outside hitter Claire Conners registered a .316 attack percentage, tallying 30 kills on 76 attempts to match four total blocks – three assisted and one solo.
- Sophomore Iliana Diaz eclipsed her career single-game best recording four block assists against Mitchell College.
- Junior middle blocker Meghan Doxsee led the Sharks with seven total blocks – six assisted and one solo.
- Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons recorded 43 assists through two matches.
