Volleyball Upended by Endicott in Four Sets

BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (0-4) dropped their home opener to Endicott College (2-0) in four sets on Tuesday evening.

Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons posted an outstanding .385 attack percentage, leading the Sharks with 12 kills on 26 attempts, while tallying her second double of the season with 18 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Endicott 25, Simmons 21
Hitting .391 as a team, the Gulls jumped out to a quick, 1-0 match advantage. Endicott's Megan Murphy was nearly perfect from the floor notching four kills on five attempts, while Julia Giroux also posted four.

Junior outside hitter April Beatty led the Sharks tallying four kills on 11 attempts with just one miscue, senior setter Kat Simeonidis kept Simmons in the set with three service aces.

SET 2: Simmons 25, Endicott 21
The Sharks responded and evened the match with a 25-21 in the second set. Senior setter Chelsea Simmons came on real strong, tallying five kills on eight attempts, while fellow senior Claire Conners posted a .429 attack percentage with three kills.

SET 3: Endicott 26, Simmons 24
Momentum appeared to have been changing directions in the third set. Leading for the majority of the set, the Sharks were one point away from taking a 2-1 advantage following a kill from Jayla Parnell the forced Endicott to call its first timeout of the set.

The Gulls answered and tied the set at 24, leading to second year Head Coach Pat Helmas to call their second timeout of the game. With a renewed sense of energy, Endicott pulled out the 26-24 win to jump ahead, 2-1 in the match.

SET 4: Endicott 25, Simmons 21
Simmons looked poised to force a fifth set, controlling the majority of the fourth set. The Sharks held a four-point, 20-16, lead late in the set. However, with their backs against the wall, the Gulls responded quickly and efficiently with an 9-1 run to take the fourth and final set.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons registered her second straight double-double tallying 12 kills and 19 assists, while also tallying four total blocks – three assisted, one solo.
  • Sophomore Alex Spencer was force at the net tallying three block assists.
  • Junior Meghan Doxsee registered led the Sharks with three aces and a pair of block assists.

Simmons will look to snap its four game skid this weekend with a tri-match in Willimantic, Connecticut against Eastern Connecticut State (2 p.m.) and Bay Path University (4 p.m.)
