Four From Volleyball Recognized as GNAC Unveils Postseason Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Claire Conners was named to the Great Northeat Athletic Conference (GNAC) first team for the second straight year announced by the league on Tuesday.  

Senior outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono and junior setter Kat Simeonidis joined Conners being selected to the All-GNAC second team, while sophomore Meghan Doxsee was the Sharks All-Sportsmanship Team representative.

Ranked fourth amongst conference leaders in kills and kills per set, Conners was named to the All-GNAC first team after registering a career year with 336 kills, 34 total blocks and 34 aces in 25 matches. She dominated the GNAC playoffs hitting .266 with 63 kills on 169 attempts, while was an integral piece in Simmons 3-2 comeback victory over Rivier in the semifinals. Against the Raiders, she surpassed her collegiate career single-game best with 27 kills, while posting a .298 attack percentage with 22 kills in the championship match against Johnson & Wales. 

Iannantuono was selected to an all-conference squad for the third time in her collegiate career – second straight year earning All-GNAC second team recognition. The Sharks leader on the court this season, she too surpassed her single-season bests, tallying 301 kills with 314 digs, 35 aces and 17 total blocks. Additionally, she recorded eight double-doubles on the season, including four straight games from September 17 – 30.

Pacing the offense with 935 assists, Simeonidis garnered All-GNAC second team honors for the second straight year. In addition to averaging 8.82 assists per game, she also is second amongst NCAA leaders in service aces registering 91 over the 2022 season. Simeonidis finished the year posting a single-season best, 65 kills, 935 assists, 91 aces and 22 total blocks to receive the end of the season accolades.

Sophomore opposite hitter Meghan Doxsee rounded out the Sharks to receive all-conference recognition as Simmons' All-Sportsmanship Team representative. Throughout the season, she became a powerful presence at the net, leading the team with 45 total blocks – 38 assisted and seven solo blocks.
