Volleyball Enters AVCA Regional Rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time in program history, Simmons volleyball has entered the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Regional Rankings for Region I. The Sharks are the only Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) program in the regional rankings. 

Coming off its first win in seven years against Johnson & Wales University, the Sharks claimed the second seed in the GNAC post-season with a 10-2 conference mark and 18-6 overall.  

The Sharks defeated the Wildcats in four sets, 3-1, Saturday morning. It was the team's first win since Sept. 27, 2014 when they won in five sets, 3-2, in Providence, R.I 

Sophomore setter Kat Simeonidis, who has paced the Shark offense with 7.90 assists/set, is currently ranked in the top-10 in the nation in service aces with 68 on the year. Additionally, she also leads the conference in aces against GNAC opponents with 40.

Simmons will host the third-seed Lasell University in the GNAC Quarterfinals tomorrow, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Holmes Sports Center. Free tee-shirt and pizza to all fans who attend.
