Volleyball Picks Up Second Win over Wentworth This Season with 3-0 Sweep

BOSTON, Mass – Simmons volleyball (16-6) defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology (15-12) in non-conference action, Thursday evening. 

Senior Amanda Fortune notched eight kills and two block assists, while senior Krissy Lloyd posted a .385 attack percentage tallying six kills on 13 attempts and one error. Sophomore Kat Simeonidis was instrumental from the service line, registering a single-game best eight aces. Fellow senior Tabitha Miles played well on senior night with a pair of aces and four digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Simmons 25, Wentworth 23
The Sharks set the tone early, edging out a gritty Wentworth squad, 25-23, to take a 1-0 match lead. Lloyd was four of six from the floor with a block assist while Fortune, sophomore Jayla Parnell and junior Sydney Iannantuono added three kills.

Set 2: Simmons 25, Wentworth 18
Simmons grew stronger as the match move along following a 25-18 win in set two. Iannantuono was flawless from the floor, tallying four kills on eight attempts for a .500 attack percentage, while Simeondis paced the offense with 10 assists. 

Set 3: Simmons 25, Wentworth 16
Continuing the trend of improving each, set the Sharks posted their best hitting percentage (.318) in a 25-16 third set victory. Fortune and Parnell combined to hit .500 in the set with each notching three kills and a block. Simeondis steadied the offense with eight assists, while Iannantuono and sophomore Jordan Hacker posted four digs.  

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Kat Simeondis registered a career single-game best eight of the Sharks 12 service aces.
  • Senior Tabitha Miles also was outstanding from the service line with two, while also registering four digs.
  • Fellow senior Krissy Lloyd led the Sharks with a .385 attack percentage, with six kills on 13 attempts.
