Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Three Games with 3-1 Win Over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – Simmons volleyball (15-6, 9-3 GNAC) won its third straight game following a four-set, 3-1, victory over Lasell University (13-11, 5-5 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Tuesday evening.

Sophomore Claire Conners posted a .345 attack percentage, leading the way with 14 kills on 29 attempts, while also notching two block assists. Jayla Parnell joined her classmate in double figure kills with 11 as senior Amanda Fortune added nine kills and three total blocks (one solo and two assisted).

The Sharks led for the majority of the first set and were within points of clinching the first set early, but the Lasers stormed back with four straight points to tie up the set. After trading a one-point advantage, Fortune and sophomore Kat Simeonidis sealed the set 28-26 to take the 1-0 match lead.

Lasell mounted came back in the second set. Finding themselves down much of the set, the Lasers answered and edged out the Sharks, 27-25 to tie up the match at 1-1. 

Simmons pulled ahead and took the 2-1 match lead with a 25-21 win in game three. And with momentum on their side, the Sharks pulled out the 25-19 behind kills from Simeonidis and Conners as well as an ace by junior outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono.  

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Claire Conners hit .345 with 14 kills on 29 attempts and just four errors.
  • Sophomore Kat Simeonidis registered her sixth double-double of the season, tallying 34 assists and 15 digs.
  • Senior Amanda Fortune registered a .467 hitting percentage with nine kills on 15 attempts and three total blocks – 2 assisted, 1 solo.
