Volleyball Earns Seventh GNAC Win Following Sweep of Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – Simmons volleyball (13-6, 7-2 GNAC) earned its seventh conference win following a 3-0 sweep of Anna Maria College (5-17, 1-9 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Wednesday evening.

First-year Nalani Majkia led the way, posting a .647 attack percentage, tallying 12 kills on 17 attempts with just one error, while also adding three service aces. Sophomore setter Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with 14 assists.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the first set, the AMCATS opened with a 5-1 lead behind the serving of senior outside hitter Jenna Grande (Whitman, MA) and led 12-10 at the midway point before the Sharks stormed back, winning seven straight rallies with sophomore setter Kat Simeonidis (Lake Mary, FL) leading the way. Simmons closed it out with a kill from senior middle blocker Krissy Lloyd (Tampa, FL).
  • After cruising in the second set, Simmons opened the third set with three straight points only for Anna Maria to fight back, pulling to within one and at one point winning six of seven rallies to pull to within three behind sophomore outside hitter Sarah Burt (Plymouth, MA). Ultimately, the Sharks pulled away down the stretch.
  • Simmons first year middle hitter Nelani Majkia (Albuquerque, NM) led the Sharks with 12 kills and a .647 kill percentage.
