Volleyball Sweeps Norwich to Grab Its Third Straight GNAC Win

BOSTON – Hitting .299 as a team, Simmons volleyball (9-3, 3-1 GNAC) picked up its third straight victory following a 3-0 sweep of Norwich University (5-5, 0-3 GNAC), Friday evening.

Junior outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono led the way tallying 13 kills, while senior Krissy Lloyd posted a .538 attack percentage with eight kills on 13 attempts and one miscue. Sophomore Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with 33 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Simmons 25, Norwich 17
Simmons set the tone early with a 25-17 win in the first set. Senior Amanda Fortune was a perfect four-for-four from the floor, sophomore Jayla Parnell hit .333 with three kills on six attempts and just one error.

Set 2 – Simmons 25, Norwich 20
The Cadets attempted to claw their way back into the match with a late run towards the end of the second set, but the Shark offense was too potent. Simmons improved its hitting percentage to .312 in the second set – 13 kills on 32 attempts.

Lloyd was four of seven from the floor for an outstanding .429 attack percentage, while Iannantuono was nearly perfect with three kills on four attempts. Sophomore Jordan Hacker was solid defensively leading the charge with seven digs.

Set 3 – Simmons 25, Norwich 19
Simmons sealed the match following a 25-19 victory in the third set. The veteran Iannantuono stepped up and closed out the match, tallying nine kills. Simeondis set the tone with 15 assists in addition to going up for a block with sophomore Claire Conners. Hacker added another seven digs to her total to finish with a team-best 17 on the night.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Sharks .299 attack percentage was their second best hitting performance since hosting Westfield State earlier this season.
  • Senior Krissy Lloyd posted her best hitting percentage on the season, tallying eight kills on 13 attempts and one error for a .538 hitting percentage.
  • Sophomore Kat Simeondis paced the offense with 33 assists, while also posting two blocks.

Simmons travels to Weston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. tilt against GNAC rival Regis College.
