Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Simmons University women's volleyball team received the Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 season from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, it was announced today by the AVCA.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Simmons University women's volleyball team received the Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 season from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, it was announced today by the AVCA.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Simmons volleyball earned a 3.32 cumulate GPA as a team from the past year and boasted five student-athletes with a 3.6 or higher, including two members with a perfect 4.0 for the spring semester. The Sharks also earned the honor for the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2017-18 campaigns as well.

Simmons finished the season with a 14-15 overall record, including 7-5 in league play and was defeated in the GNAC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals as the number six seed.
