Volleyball Defeats UMass Dartmouth, 3-1

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Simmons University women's volleyball team saw three players record eight kills, including sophomore setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.), who also added 14 assists, nine digs and two aces to lead the Sharks to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19) victory over host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center this evening in Dartmouth, Mass. Simmons improves to 5-6 on the season, while the Corsairs fall to 5-3.

BOSTON, Mass. ? Sophomore setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished a dig short of a triple-double with 10 kills, 13 assists and nine digs to lead the Simmons University women?s volleyball team over visiting Fisher College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-, this evening at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their fourth straight match and six of their last seven to improve to 14-12, while the Falcons fall to 14-11.

The Sharks hit .200 for the match, including .550 in the opening set with just one attack error and served up 14 aces for the match.

First year outside hitter Reilly Coombs (Deland, Fla.) added eight kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces for Simmons, while classmate Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) notched eight kills, two service aces and a block solo. Sophomore middle hitter Megan Purser (Miami, Fla.). swung for six kills on a .545 hitting percentage and added four total blocks and sophomore Riley Roberge (Peoria, Ariz.) fired five aces to go with six digs and three kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) also contributed from the service line with three aces and picked up eight digs as well. 

Senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) recorded a match-high 10 kills to go with seven digs in the setback for UMass Dartmouth, which received nine kills, eight digs and a pair of service aces from junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) along with six kills from senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.).  Junior Samantha Sedano (Valley Glen, Calif.) chipped in with seven service aces and a pair of kills for UMass Dartmouth, which received 25 set assists and four digs from junior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) along with 13 digs and three service aces from junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.). 

Simmons heads to Standish, Maine on Saturday, September 22 for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash with Saint Joseph's College (Maine) that begins at Noon, while UMass Dartmouth hosts Babson College in a non-league match on September 20 at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 pm.
