Weeg Named GNAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

The sophomore averaged 5.30 kills, 2.90 digs and 0.40 aces per set in three matches over 10 sets for the Sharks, while hitting .312 and adding a pair of total blocks. Weeg began the week by spiking for 19 kills on a lofty .361 hitting mark to go with six digs and an ace in a 3-0 victory over seventh-regionally ranked Babson College on October 25. The outside hitter capped the week with a pair of double-doubles in a GNAC tri-match on October 28. She put down 20 kills on a .250 hitting percentage and picked up 11 digs to go with a solo block and an ace in a 3-0 win over host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) and capped the week with 14 kills on a .360 hitting mark in addition to 12 digs, two aces and an assisted block to help the team to a 3-1 win over Suffolk University. 

For the season, the Agua Fria High School graduate ranks 11th in the nation and leads the conference with 4.27 kills per set, while ranking 12th among league leaders with a .268 hitting clip. She ranks third on the team with 2.01 digs per set to go with 20 aces and 13 total blocks. The hitter has registered double-digit kills in 24 of 28 matches, including a current streak of 14 consecutive matches and has put down 20 or more kills on four occasions. Weeg's 21-kill effort in three sets vs. Mount Holyoke College on September 9 is tied for the 17th-highest mark in the nation for a three-set contest. Weeg, who played for Livewire Club Volleyball, has hit .200 or better 22 times and has hit .297 while averaging 4.97 kills per set over her last 10 matches since October 4. The second-year player has also posted six double-doubles for the year, including a season-high 14 digs to go with 10 kills vs. Bates College on September 30. 

Simmons closed out the regular season with 10 straight wins for the longest such streak in recent memory at the school and currently owns a 19-9 mark to tie for the most wins in a season since 2012. The Sharks posted an 11-1 conference record and earned the second seed in the upcoming GNAC Championship Tournament for their highest showing in school history. Simmons hosts seventh-seeded Suffolk on Tuesday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the GNAC Quarterfinals at Moore Gymnasium.
