Fusco Named GNAC Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week of October 2-8. 

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week of October 9-15, it was announced today by the league. The award marks the second straight week that she has been a recipient of the honor and is the only player in school history to have earned the award multiple times since it was instituted for the 2016 campaign. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week of October 2-8. 

The first year player averaged 4.22 digs per set and committed just three receiving errors in 54 attempts. In addition, she also fired three aces in nine sets over three matches for the week. The libero began the week with seven digs and a pair of aces vs. Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a 3-0 win on October 4 and capped the week with a tri-match at Norwich University on October 7. The rookie got down for 17 digs in a 3-0 victory over Rivier University and followed that outing with 14 digs and an ace in a 3-0 win over Norwich, while receiving 12 serves without a miscue.

For the season, the Bishop-Fenwick High School product has played in all 73 sets over 21 matches and has averaged 3.64 digs per set to stand ninth in the conference and second among rookies. Fusco has posted double-digit dig numbers in all but six matches for the Sharks and 20 or more three times, including a season-high of 23 at Gordon College on September 23. Fusco has recorded double-digit dig numbers in seven of the last eight matches. 

Simmons has won three straight matches and owns a 12-9 overall record, including 6-1 in league play. The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, October 11 when they host Lasell College at Moore Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. match.
