Weeg Named GNAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week Again

The honor marks the second straight week that Weeg has earned the award to tie for the most in the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of October 10-16, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second straight week that Weeg has earned the award to tie for the most in the league.

The first year averaged 4.33 kills and 5.50 digs per set, while owning a .279 hitting percentage and recording three aces and a trio of block assists in six sets over two matches for the week. The outside hitter began the week with gusto, smashing 20 kills in a 3-0 victory over visiting Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on October 10 to average 6.67 kills and picked up 22 digs for a 7.33 per set rate to go with a .486 hitting mark, two aces and three assisted blocks. Weeg capped the week with six kills, 11 digs and an ace in a 3-0 win over Norwich University on October 15.

A graduate of Agua Fria High School, Weeg has been among the best players in the conference and nation all season. The rookie is the only player in the league to average more than four kills and three digs per set and ranks second among GNAC leaders with 4.05 kills per set and ninth with 3.58 digs per frame. Weeg also places 27th in NCAA Division III for kills per set and 31st with 4.53 points per set. Her .243 hitting percentage places her eighth among league leaders as well. She has registered 10 double-doubles on the year, including five outings with 20 or more kills and two matches with 20-plus digs. Weeg's career-high 29-kill effort vs. Emerson College on October 1, ranks as the 15th-most in a five-set match in Division III this season and her 20 kills vs. Saint Joseph's was the 20th-highest mark in a three-set match.

The Sharks have won three straight contests, without dropping a set and are currently 7-9 on the year, including 4-2 in league play and currently stand fourth in the GNAC standings.
