Fredrickson & Guillotte Named GNAC Volleyball All-Conference

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s volleyball players Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) and Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) were each named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference team, it was announced today by the league. Fredrickson was tabbed to the First Team, while Guillotte was a Second Team selection.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College women's volleyball players Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) and Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) were each named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference team, it was announced today by the league. Fredrickson was tabbed to the First Team, while Guillotte was a Second Team selection. In addition, junior defensive specialist Alex Itasaka (Bradford, Mass.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Fredrickson enjoyed a breakout year for the Sharks, ranking fourth in the league with 3.06 kills per set, breaking the 300-kill mark with 303 in 99 sets over 27 matches, while owning a .103 hitting percentage. The hitter was one of two players on the squad to play in every set for Simmons. She became just the third player in the last decade to register over 300 kills for the school. The junior placed 17th among league leaders with 0.47 aces per set, while standing 10th in aces per set in conference matches with 0.60. She finished the season with 47 aces for the eighth-highest single-season mark for a Shark in the last 10 years. The outside hitter was one of the best all-around players in the league as the only competitor in the GNAC to average over 3.00 kills, 0.45 aces, 2.20 digs and 0.15 blocks per set. A graduate of Long Reach High School, Fredrickson was extremely consistent for Simmons, swinging for double-digit kills in 18 of 27 matches, including 11 matches with 13 or more and a career-high of 19 in four sets vs. Anna Maria College on October 24. The five-foot, 11-inch hitter also posted at least 10 kills or digs on 22 occasions, including five double-doubles. The junior showed a much improved service game with at least one ace in 20 contests, including multiple aces 14 times and a career-high of six vs. Suffolk University on September 30. She closed out the season with 13 kills and a career-best 26 digs in five sets at Saint Joseph's College on November 3 in the GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals. Fredrickson has seen action in 204 career sets over 62 matches, while swinging for 467 kills on a .115 hitting mark. A transfer from University of Massachusetts Boston, following her rookie season, the front court player also has 291 lifetime digs, 53 aces and 41 total blocks. 

Making the move to the Sharks' primary libero in 2015, Guillotte responded by ranking second among league leaders with 4.25 digs per set in league-only matches, while posting an average of 4.17 digs in all matches during the year. The junior registered double-digit digs in all but two matches on the season, including six contests with 20 or more and closed out the campaign with 10 or more digs in her last 13 matches. The New Bedford High School product saw action in 95 sets over 26 matches and picked up a career-high 24 digs on two occasions. Guillotte proved to be a reliable receiver for Simmons, putting together a .934 serve reception percentage and turned in five perfect outings without committing a reception error, including an effort where she handled 29 serves without a miscue at Saint Joseph's on October 31. The three-year player has seen action in 307 sets over 87 matches for the Sharks, while firing 74 aces to go with 130 kills and 908 digs. 

Simmons finished the season with a 9-18 record, including 6-5 in league play and saw its season come to an end with a 3-2 loss to host Saint Joseph's in the GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
