Volleyball Drops Two in Tri-Match at Saint Joseph's (Maine)

STANDISH, Maine - The Simmons College women's volleyball team was swept in a tri-match, falling to host Saint Joseph's College (Maine), 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-21, 25-16) and losing to Maine Maritime Academy, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) this afternoon at the Harold Alfond Center in Standish, Maine. The Sharks fall to 9-16 on the season, while the Monks are now 26-5 and the Mariners are 17-12.

The loss to Saint Joseph's drops Simmons' Great Northeast Athletic Conference record to 6-5. Simmons is now the number six seed in the GNAC Championship Tournament and will return to Standish to take on the third-seeded Monks on Tuesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Sophomore middle hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Sharks with 10 kills and a .273 hitting percentage to go with five aces and six digs vs. Saint Joseph's. Classmate Sarah Woodward (Deerfield, Mass.) put down nine kills and picked up five digs, while junior outside hitter Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) spiked for eight kills and picked up 10 digs. Junior setter Andalyn Duke (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) set for 30 assists and scooped up seven digs and junior libero Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) got down for 21digs to anchor the defense.

Guillotte did not let up in the second match of the afternoon for Simmons, picking up 14 digs in three sets vs. Maine Maritime to give her 35 on the day in seven frames. Fredrickson added six more kills and 13 digs to her day vs. the Mariners, while senior right side hitter Nicole Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) found the floor for five kills and also picked up a pair of digs.
