Volleyball Falls to Roger Williams, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team dropped its second match of the day, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-8) to Roger Williams University as part of a tri-match played at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. this afternoon. The Sharks fall to 4-5 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 6-6.

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team dropped its second match of the day, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-8) to Roger Williams University as part of a tri-match played at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. this afternoon. The Sharks fall to 4-5 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 6-6.

Roger Williams hit an impressive .250 as a team, including .391 in the opening set and also recorded eight blocks for the match.

Junior outside hitter Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) spiked for seven kills to lead Simmons and added four digs, while junior libero Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) led the defense with nine digs.

Junior outside hitter Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) (nine) and first year middle hitter Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) (eight) combined for 17 kills to lead the Hawks. Boyer hit .368 for the match, fired a pair of aces, registered two block assists and picked up a dig, while Quilty hit a robust .462 to go with five assisted blocks, two digs and a service ace. Sophomore defensive specialist Maria Batas (Merrick, N.Y.) led all defenders with 11 digs and added an ace.

Roger Williams jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the opening set, paced by three kills from Boyer, and never looked back, leading by no fewer than eight points for the remainder of the frame. 

The Sharks controlled the early part of the second set, taking an 8-3 margin. The Hawks regrouped and went on a 10-1 burst to take a 13-9 lead. Roger Williams slowly pulled away, winning the second set by nine points. 

Simmons was within two points at 6-4, early in the third set, but the Hawks dominated the remainder of the frame, outscoring the Sharks, 19-4, to take the frame and the match. 

The Sharks will be in action again on Monday, September 21 when they travel to Brookline, Mass. to take on Newbury College at 6:00 p.m., while Roger Williams heads to Nashua, N.H. on September 26 for a tri-match with Colby College and host Rivier University.
