WALTHAM, Mass. - The Simmons College volleyball team was defeated, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-21), by host Brandeis University this morning at Shapiro Gymnasium in Waltham, Mass. The Sharks fall to 4-4 on the season, while the Judges improve to 3-10.

Junior outside hitter Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) led the Simmons offense with nine kills and added four digs, while sophomore outside hitter Sarah Woodward (Deerfield, Mass.) put down five kills, picked up seven digs and assisted on a block. Junior setter Andalyn Duke (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) set for 19 assists and scooped up seven digs and junior libero Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) got down for 10 digs.

First year outside hitter Grace Krumpack (Cincinnati, Ohio) topped Brandeis with eight kills to go with a .250 hitting percentage and added a match-high 15 digs in addition to an ace. Rookie setter Allison Harmsworth (Bradenton, Fla.) enjoyed a well-rounded effort, registering 18 assists, seven digs, three aces, three kills and two block assists. First year defensive specialist Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif.) was stellar on the defensive end for the Judges, picking up 15 digs to go with a service ace.

Brandeis raced out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set, before Simmons ripped off five straight points to climb to within 10-9. The Judges rebounded with a 10-2 run, to take a 20-11 cushion, before putting the set away.

The teams played within three points of each other midway through the second set, before Brandeis held a 14-13 edge. The Judges scored five unanswered points, including a pair of aces from Harmsworth, to take a 19-13 lead. The Sharks took a bite out of the deficit with an 8-2 stretch to pull to within 22-21, but the home team scored three of the final points of the set, including a kills from Krumpack to decide the frame for the Judges.

The final set saw four lead changes in the first 25 points, before Brandeis owned a 13-12 margin. The Judges scored six of the next eight points to take a 19-14 cushion. Simmons could get no closer than within three points the rest of the way as sophomore outside hitter Jessie Moore (Rye, N.Y.) found the open floor, with one of her five kills, for set and match point.

Both teams continue play on the day, facing Roger Williams University.
