Fredrickson, Woodward Lead Volleyball to 3-1 Win at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Woodward (Deerfield, Mass.) posted a double-double and Caillin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) spiked for a team-high 15 kills to lead the Simmons College volleyball team to a 3-1 (17-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-17) victory over host Smith College this evening in Northampton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 1-2.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Woodward (Deerfield, Mass.) posted a double-double and Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) spiked for a team-high 15 kills to lead the Simmons College volleyball team to a 3-1 (17-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-17) victory over host Smith College this evening in Northampton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 1-2.

Woodward recorded her third career double-double for Simmons with 11 kills and 14 digs to go with a team-best six aces, while Fredrickson hit .333 for the match and fired a pair of aces to go with five digs.

The Sharks dropped the first set, 25-17, but came right back with a convincing 25-11 second set win, followed by comfortable 25-18, 25-17 victories in the final two frames.

Junior setter Andalyn Duke Litchfield Park, Ariz.) registered 35 assists to pace Simmons and added three digs and an ace, while junior libero Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) picked up 14 digs to help lead the defense. Junior middle hitter Abby Hart (Westfield, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points, including seven kills, four block solos and three aces.

The Sharks will be in action again on Saturday, September 12 when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 2:30 p.m. at Moore Gymnasium, while Smith hosts Ursinus College on September 11 at 6:00 p.m.
