Fredrickson Leads Volleyball in 3-1 Loss at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Junior outside hitter Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) smashed a match-high 12 kills to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14) loss to host United States Coast Guard Academy this morning in the 2015 CGA Bears Invitational in New London, Conn. The Sharks fall to 2-2 on the season, while the Bears improve to 3-0.

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Junior outside hitter Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) smashed a match-high 12 kills to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14) loss to host United States Coast Guard Academy this morning in the 2015 CGA Bears Invitational in New London, Conn. The Sharks fall to 2-2 on the season, while the Bears improve to 3-0.

Simmons rebounded to win the second set to tie the match at 1-1, but dropped the next two as Coast Guard took the match.

Fredrickson has tallied at least 12 kills in all four matches this season for the Sharks and added seven digs and a pair of aces. Junior middle hitter Abby Hart (Westfield, Mass.) contributed with 12.5 points, courtesy of six kills on a .357 hitting percentage, three aces and four total blocks, including three solos. She was also named to the All-Tournament team after spiking for 26 kills in 13 sets, while owning a .313 hitting percentage to go with nine aces, nine total blocks, including five solos and seven digs in the tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Woodward (Deerfield, Mass.) rung up 10 kills and added six digs and an assisted block, while junior setter Andalyn Duke (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) directed the action with 27 assists and helped out defensively with nine digs. Junior libero Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) came up with 10 digs and lead the defense for Simmons.

Sophomore outside hitter Summer Adams (Gig Harbor, Wash.) paced the Bears' offense with 11 kills on an impressive .526 hitting clip to go with 12 digs and three aces. Senior middle blocker Ashley Dumont (Silver Spring, Md.) chipped in with nine kills, six digs and a block solo and senior setter Maggie Hine (Richmond, Va.) recorded 32 assists, three kills, nine digs and two total blocks.

The Sharks return to the court on Tuesday, September 8 when they travel to Northampton, Mass. to play Smith College at 7:00 p.m., while Coast Guard heads to Kings Point, N.Y. on September 12 to face United States Merchant Marine Academy at 12:00 p.m.
