Sharks Shut Out by Raiders, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Volleyball fell to the visiting Rivier University Raiders, 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-18) Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Holmes Sports Center.  

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Simmons Volleyball was down 2-1 and came back to defeat the Colby College Mules, 3-2 for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon at Tufts University.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons first year Alexandria Itasaka (Bradford, Mass.) was named to the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Volleyball Third Team announced Monday by the conference.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Volleyball fell to the visiting Rivier University Raiders, 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-18) Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Holmes Sports Center.  Senior Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) led all Sharks, hitting .600 with six kills and no errors on 10 attempts.

 

After the Sharks put up the first point of the game off a kill by Rossi Fish (North Attleboro, Mass.), Rivier scored five straight points with strong play by Jackie Pisecco, who hit .579 on the night, and Nicole Peacock. Simmons fought back to the tie the game at six as senior Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) served up two aces. After an exchange of points on both sides, the Raiders took the lead for good, hitting .229 and rolling to a 25-18 win.

 

In the second game, the Raiders took an early 15-6 lead as Molly McCormick added four kills and Nicole Boucher added seven. Alexandria Itasaka (Bradford, Mass.) anchored the Sharks defense with 10 digs, while first year Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) added eight. The Raiders hit .391 in game two and allowed just 12 points as Jessica Amaral put up a team-high 14 digs.

 

The Sharks took a 15-10 lead in game three as Nicole Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) and Guillotte added two kills apiece. Fish buried three but the Raiders rebounded behind the defense of Emily O'Reilly (11 digs) to tie the game at 15. McCormic, Boucher and Pisecco each added kills as the Raiders clinched the 25-18 victory.

 

With the win, Rivier remains undefeated in the GNAC at 8-0, while the Sharks pick up their second loss, 6-2. Simmons returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Clark University for a  tri match with Amherst College at 11 AM and 1 PM.
