Lions Sweep Sharks, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons senior Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) led all Sharks with nine kills in a 3-0 loss (25-18, 25-15 and 25-20) to the Emerson College Lions Thursday evening. With the win EC improves to 8-4 on the year as Simmons falls to 1-13.

BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons senior Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) led all Sharks with nine kills in a 3-0 loss (25-18, 25-15 and 25-20) to the Emerson College Lions Thursday evening. With the win EC improves to 8-4 on the year as Simmons falls to 1-13.

Set one saw EC come out strong as they took the lead and with a .192 attack percentage in the set as Alyssa Thorne came in to throw down four kills to lead the floor. Three service aces also helped bolster the Lions as they took a 25-18 win. Simmons first year Andalyn Duke (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) added 16 assists. 

Set two saw Jules Augustine step up to floor five kills to lead the Lions .714 attack percentage while Giuli Frendak stepped up to lead EC with 10 assists. The Sharks defense held on as Morgan Kieon (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Chanel Thomas (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded 12 and 8 digs, respectively. But Emerson took a 25-15 win to go up 2-0.

Set three saw the Lions go on an eight point run on Simmons to make it 13-5 before the Sharks started nibbling away to bring it to 17-14 in the set off strategic play by Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.). EC took control again with Thorne coming up big for four kills and a .400 attack percentage to lead the sweep Simmons, 25-20.

The Sharks travel to Saint Joseph's College (Me.) for a tri-match with Suffolk University in the opening of Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Lions will hit the road on Saturday to continue their NEWMAC season, as they travel to face the Mount Holyoke Lyons at 1 PM in South Hadley, Mass.
